A Textfrence is an online public meeting for discussion purposes on a specified topic or subject matter, in which the main means of communication is instant live chat by texting. The text participation is from such devices as cellphones, tablets or laptops. A Textfrence typically has an agenda, a facilitator, and theme leaders or “speakers” who present their thought starters for purposes of leading a discussion on a particular sub-topic, within the main agenda. The term was coined by BuildRSA, a live chat platform (BuildRSA.co.za) in July 2023 when it hosted the first ever Textfrence, which was focused on problem solving skills.
